Josh Turned 2!!!

Rochester, NY Photographer

It's incredible how quickly two years with this little guy have gone by! I mean, they've flown! It seems like the first two years with Lily were in slow motion, but having two kids makes everything that much more chaotic and awesome and fast.

Saturday we taught Josh how to answer the question, "How old are you?" His response: "Do!" He was all ready to be asked a hundred times on Sunday, which was his actual birthday, and he was all grins about it. Of course, the balloons helped!

Photographing My Little Ones | Rochester, NY Lifestyle Photographer

Lindsay Crandall Photography

My favorite thing to photograph is my children. I'm sure that's true of most moms, but nothing makes my heart beat faster than capturing their childhood through my camera. And! It's even better when they are feeling happy and cooperative and let me take their photographs without fussing. Yeah, that's the best!

When my daughter was first born, I would spend hours taking pictures of her, just to pass the time. It's funny how, even five years later, things haven't changed much. I'm busier now than I was then (let's face it, newborns are cute but boring), but I still love a lazy afternoon with nothing to do but click! click! click!

What Summer Feels Like So Far | Rochester, NY Photographer

Lindsay Crandall Photography

You know, I have to say that sometimes just snapping a few photos in a few minutes is a good thing. Especially when everyone is getting along (juice and crackers help!). Sometimes, it's good to capture an ordinary moment.

And even though it's not technically summer, it's surely felt like summer quite a bit. We are counting down the days until the end of the school year so the real fun can begin: lazy weekends at the lake, trips to the zoo, swimming in the pool. It's going to be a great summer!

Portraits of an Almost Two Year-Old | Rochester, NY Child Photographer

Lindsay Crandall Photographer

Somehow, I totally lucked out this weekend and had this little guy all to myself. It was unexpectedly awesome -- the house was quiet, we kept our own schedule, and we did some of the things we never do, like going for an hour-long walk in the middle of the afternoon (it's the simple things, folks!).

When my husband called to check in with us, I told him we were having a great time. Then he told me that when he was a kid he loved having his mom all to himself. They're some of his best memories. I love that! I love having time alone with my kiddos, and I hope they love our time alone too. Because this weekend was awesome!

Around Here | Rochester, NY Portrait Photographer

Lindsay Crandall Photographer

Some days are just so ordinary, filled with ordinary things. But also beautiful things! One of the reasons I first picked up a camera was because I was compelled to find ordinary beauty. It's everywhere -- you just have to pay attention! And I love that and that I get to capture it with my camera. It's a wonderful thing, don't you think?

Happy Birthday, Lily!!! | Rochester, NY Photographer

"Because I'm five now!" has become a thing at our house. Well, before today it was, "Because I'm almost five!" But today we shift gears and make it official. She's five!!

This afternoon, with both kiddos in my lap, I started to read and Lily said, "I can read this . . . because I'm five now!" So, I let her have at it. She read Mr King's Castle almost word for word. The ones she couldn't remember she made up, but without compromising the integrity of the story, of course.

The whole thing made me laugh because she IS five and she almost can read and the whole thing is so ridiculously wonderful that my cheeks hurt from laughing. Happy birthday, little girl! Five looks great on you!!

Sometimes We Shoot Ourselves | Rochester, NY Family Photographer

Wait! That didn't sound right!! How about we rename this post "Sometimes We Have Photo Shoots in the Backyard". Is that better? All right.

Now that spring is springing, we get outside whenever we can. And, like I've said before, sometimes it's so good to be able to document ordinary moments. Especially when it's warm and the sun is shining!

Sunshine Makes Me Happy | Rochester, NY Photographer

Spring is certainly sping-ing around here! About time, right? Yesterday, on the walk to school, we saw flowers for the first time, and it was such a relief.

One sure sign of spring is the sliver of light that now comes through the front window every evening. It has become quite a distraction, that golden light slicing through the house. So, last night when we were watching a movie, I offered Lily a handful of chocolate chips in exchange for a little photographic cooperation (no, I'm not opposed to bribing my kids, apparently).

We went outside and danced around the front yard! And jumped! And giggled! And we were so happy to be outside!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
